CVs
More often than not, the first impression you make to a potential employer is the one on your CV, so it makes sense to get it right!
Firstly, a CV is a brief overview of you as a candidate. It should be well laid out, precise and preferably typed - so it is easy to read. Remember "MISS" - Make it Simple, Stupid!
Your CV should not contain any errors.
Make sure your CV informs readers of your qualifications, your education and schooling and the dates when you attended education. Always put as much emphasis on the responsibilities that you had whilst there - but keep it short and to the point.
If you have any formal training in computer programs, list them; if you are skilled in computer programs, make sure you illustrate to what skill level. Eg - Microsoft Word - Advanced level. This informs potential employers of your abilities.
List your hobbies - it provides a good overview of you as a person.
Work experience and history - always list your work achievements and put on your CV in date order. For example if you worked at XYZ Company, say what your job title is/was, say the dates you were there, and also highlight the responsibilities and duties you had. Also, put a reason for leaving, but do not lie, as potential employers may seek a reference from that particular company. Clearly show what your achievements were, and also what your responsibilities were/are. |
